How the ABS anti-lock braking system works

Anti-lock braking systems, or ABS for short, are widely installed on modern cars. ABS not only has the braking function of the ordinary braking system but also can prevent the wheels from locking up. It can still turn the car under braking, ensure the stability of the braking direction of the car, and prevent sideslip and deviation. It is currently the most advanced brake device with the best braking effect.

Ordinary braking system braking on slippery roads or emergency braking, the wheels are likely to exceed the tire braking force and ground friction and lock safely. Locking the wheels completely can reduce the frictional force between the tires and the ground. The driver cannot control the driving direction of the car, and it is easy to slip, skid, and rush off the highway when braking. With the development of highways, the speed of cars is getting faster and faster, and the wheels with brake safety locks will be more dangerous. Therefore, for safety reasons, cars must be equipped with anti-lock braking systems.

The working principle of ABS: It uses a rubber balloon in the body. When the brakes are stepped on, the brake oil pressure is filled in the body of the ABS. At this time, the airbag uses the air interlayer in the middle to press back to avoid the wheel lock. When the wheel is about to reach the next locking point, the brake oil pressure causes the airbag to act repeatedly, so it acts 60 to 120 times for the second time, which is equivalent to continuous braking and relaxation, which is similar to a mechanical "point fork". Therefore, the ABS anti-death system can prevent the direction loss of control and wheel skidding during braking, so that when the wheels are not locked by the brakes, the tires will not have a little friction with the ground, thereby increasing the friction, the braking efficiency is over 90%.

An automobile anti-lock braking system is generally composed of a wheel speed sensor, engine speed sensor, solenoid valve, computer (computer), and hydraulic control unit (hydraulic regulator). Anti-lock braking systems have four main features:
1. Increase the stability of braking. When the car brakes, the braking force acting on the four wheels is different. If the front wheels of the car are locked, the driver cannot control the direction of travel of the wheels, which is prone to the risk of a collision. If the rear wheels of the car are locked first, then there will be serious accidents such as skidding, tail swinging, and even "turning around" of the car. ABS can prevent the four wheels from fully locking up when braking, thereby improving the stability of the car when braking.
2. The braking distance can be shortened. In the case of emergency braking, ABS makes the wheels in a rolling and dragging state, the drag ratio is about 20%, and the friction between the tire and the ground is the largest, which is called the best braking point or area. Ordinary braking systems cannot do this.
3. Prevent excessive tire wear. In fact, wheel lockup can completely cause cup tire wear, uneven wear on the tire surface, and increased tire wear. According to estimates, the cumulative friction caused by the tire lockup during emergency braking exceeds the cost of an anti-lock braking system.
4. Easy to use and reliable.

There is almost no difference between the use of the ABS system and the use of the ordinary brake system, as long as you put your foot on the brake disc when braking, it will be normal. Instead of braking in a series of spots along the way when encountering snow and slippery roads, ABS will keep the brakes in tip-top shape. Note: When the ABS is working, the driver will feel the brake pedal trembling and hear some noises, which is a normal phenomenon and there is no need to be too nervous. ABS works very reliably and has strong diagnostic capabilities.
